” I am listening to your phono stage now. It really is something very very special. I thought my !@#$ was good but yours just blows it out of the ballpark”. ..(nathan haines is auckland/london based jazz musician/composer)

a turntable (MM cartridge) plugs into the phono inputs and a computer/cd/tape/mixer/whatever can plug into the line inputs. there are adjustable gain stages for the phono amp channels – so to pick a gain factor that suits the level of the record. some records need less gain to get in focus – some need a bit more.

there is a smooth rotary cross fader control to select between the phono or line to mixture into the EQ amps, master output amps, and xover . plug a good mike or synth or any instrument into the studio preamp – lay an effect in it  with it’s insert function and mix it with the phono or line input.

also send the mike/di and the phono/line sound out to an  effect processor – bring it back – mix it  in.

wear headphones 1/2 on to look cool . and  to 1/2 listen to any sound selected audio source in order to sort a cue point or check an incoming level. also set the meters to your preference – maybe even turn them off – go commando.

this preamp is set up to play directly into a power amplifier-speakers/powered monitors – set those to go loud and then use the phonozoopa master to set your room level.

i’ve not been audiophiliac / minimal with this design. there’s all sorts of adjustability going on. because. every record has been made up – played – recorded – mixed – mastered – cut and sold up by THE craziest obsessive bunch of mother!@#ers ever . u know it. so the phonographa (1080 neve-ish) eq can help sort it out . taming a potentially scratchy top ended so as to tune up some to feel the sound fill a room without harshness that will kill your concentration. sometimes a record might love a mid top end 3khz shelvey kicker . or a 12 khz sizzler. and hell . the bottom end might need some deal of massage too . the 50hz and150hz shelves can save a thin record from itself. the wide low middle end adjustment is like a heater warm&friendly setting. the very careful listener adjustment of the two controls and two switches is definitely worthwhile. yes.. the production of LP records – and big fat hifi sound tone adjustable systems were made for each other . so ive made an eq that can peak for the clear listen and experience – only so to enjoy it even more.
