klankalooper and the listenator

klankaloopa2

DSC07442

been working on these new standard simple products.  the klankalooper is a transistor mic/di  amp with a controlled fx send and return/ mixer . and the (lower) listenator is a 3 input 3 output monitoring controller with two headphone amplifiers with makkie big knob style functionality but none of the big knobs hardness. listenator is all fat clean and clear simple transistor amps.

new klangenschmitt brooklyn model

brooklyn12

klangenschmitt  brooklyn model . 18 channel console . all fat neever  transistor amplifiers (40 of the little buggers!) . includes two mic amps – 4 stereo inputs – 3 system output monitor controller – master and channel inserts – 12 channel direct outputs. and each channel has it’s own separate fx send. to facilitate a ‘normal’ fx bus there’s a four input fx mixer with an inphase /outphase  bus output – for some extra freaking signal processing.

new klangensplautta stagebox

klangensplautta

klankafanga  stagebox  mic/instrument  amplifier.  still working on that name   – all transistor . no chips or flab .  with a full function fx looper. so.. there’s an fx send level control and fx return volume control . the fine tuned mixture of dry and wet is proper mix/picked up  and output amplifier properly .. the klankazuppa is  functional and playable as !@#K .   sounds rich and fat and clear. the BEST version of you ,your mic , and your fx.

new building alfredo mixing desk

alfredo2

been working on this  klangenschmitt alfredo console for a crazy cool jazz musician from wellington. after several months exhaustive designing and planning.  today i got the first two channels completely going and sounding really beautiful. these channels are all tube mic/di/line/two way eq/pultec MB1 line output – preamps.    with neever transistor console mixer stage amps. thick – warm  -  hot in fact . clear and FAT!. this  console is 8 mono channels and 8 stereo channels. 3 stereo buses including stereo AFL complete control room. 4 auxiliary sends per channel -  pre/post fader.  bloody hell a lot of wiring yet to do.

rolaphon mixer box

rolaphon8

rolaphon9

stereo recording mixer build.  8 mono channel input – two further stereo inputs.  pair of mike  amps and a pair of germainium preamplifiers .  two fx sends per channel with individual go switches for extra play-ability.  a pair of mono subgroups and a stereo mix bus of course. a full control room section enables complete studio and mixer monitoring . and processor insert abilities over all the inputs and outputs conveniently arranged in one row of top panel socketry . this ‘ rolaphon ‘  contains 38 transistor neve-ish amps and will fits  into an  old ROLA 66 tape recorder cabinet. the rolaphon opens up like a chest. plenty of expensive goodies in there.

kaimaitron 4 channel amplifire

custom kaimaitron 4 channel  mic/instrument amplifier with internal /external source control room or headphone monitor section. built all of  transistor amps into a 1960s brown leatherete portable case . also features an insert-able   germanium amp stage which can be sweet or stinging.

one pretty new mother

this custom motherboard has enough muscle and brains to activate 8 input channels and pick up 2 stereo busses and make some vu meters move to the music. its made from our neever all transistor operational amplifiers.this mother is the amplifying mind of the small mixer build on the bench this week getting loomed up ready for chassis insertion. i’m letter stamping a drilled up panel today while waiting for the last of the parts to arrive. the simple mixer design has 8 mono panorama abled channels and 2 further stereo inputs. the master gain is fine trim able and has a switchable external fx/eq/limiter inserting function. the mixer also has a bus interruptor function which splits the first 6 channels away to an alternate stereo buss amp which can be driven off to some other external processor,  and then  back to the main mix via one of the stereo inputs.

postcard from klangboy

ronan charles lives in the beautiful west australian hills around perth. he rolls with the ekadek klangenschmitt gogo 1 . klangboy 2009.
he’s been busy developing his studio enviroment. and klang had a  problem with a switch. it got banged or something. he decided to fix it himself and i had just mailed him to say – hi – how’d it go? . his reply was my monday heart starter. brilliant.

I’m good thanks Eke.
Happy Father’s Day (Klang asked me to pass that along…)

Yes I did manage to get it in, beaded brow like a bomb defuser and full of
admiration for the absolute gazillion of more complicated wirings that you
performed inside this beauty. Attached are a couple of pics of the Klang
desk I built around him. I hope you aren’t too offended but I figured that I
may as well build him his own house and make it nice and sturdy and
permanent-like. Its all built around him like a wooden glove, without
removing any part so he could roll out of there when necessary. You can’t
see it in the murk but there are 2 little holes to get at the headphones
from the front.
It was joyful to finally plug him in again and hear just how outrageously good he
makes everything sound . Phenomenal thing this is.
In a way its been the touchstone of quality – it’s the reason I’m going to
so much care over the building of the place he lives in.
Oh btw: there are 2 black wires coming off the klang. Are they earths? I’ve
got 2 earth wires ready to connect to them if they are.
No problem with noise. I was nervous as hell plugging it in to speakers for
the first time. But its all rock solid. Thanks so much for the electrical advice and
assistance. Really helped me.

At the moment I’ve finished the control room, bass traps and all, and am
currently moved onto finishing of the live room. building a huge 20m2 wall
of diffusers to tame the reflections coming off the brick walls I built in
the big live room… Its gonna look great but will take a few more weeks.
Its been absolutely ages in the works, this place, but I figure I may as
well go gangbusters and head off some of the problems that I know are there
before I start rolling tape again. ahhh… what a dream…

hope everything is going great with you.
Can’t wait till I can bang on your door again for some more ekadek sound
manglers.
Cheers
Ronan

monoman lives!

this whole package is ready and banging. so im looking forward to plugging the bugger into the big 100KW pa system. ive been playing records thru it . and distributing  out into the radios and grams and monitor amps ive got around this room. sounds awesome to change the focus of parts and flavours of audio and seemingly fill up a space with very delicate shifting tones. dont get me started. im all about that shit. i’ll put a little thin eq and a slow echo in one speaker way over in the corner – and a bassey round tone with a phazey squeal in  a speaker over the other side. fill in with the mantle radio left reverb and blaster for the right flat flat  … and hell. youve got a hell over a flavourfull sound.  you can pop the vocal out of the 8″ woofer or the 1″ tweeter.   good for much more trickery pokery than that gay sounding example . OR just easy-peasy-by-ear  sweet sweetening of the classic 4 way stack.  i need another beer.  given the bar space i could tweak the surround sound of music into the eeriest experiential ….  altering state happening.  something to really turn the ears on.

amplifire mixers gang show

the ekadek &  igor and i have been super enterprising. and have completed all this gear over november – december period . state of mind’s 14/4/2/2/2 mixer for live GOGOmodel3 is off on first NZ summer tour.  and the ekatron matrix 16/6  & micro 10/2 auxiliary mixers  live in a box for now with the big 16 channel ekatron 32 tube   M.B one preamplifier. its their big  OE.

KLANGTRONIC PERFORMING MIXER

heres the start of a  new live rig mixer project/product. six inputs &  four mixed outputs. 1 – main (mono) 2 – echo send. 3 – reverb send. 4 – cue send. the echo & reverb sends can be killed or momentary pulse switched using the keyboard switches. the key switches are light to touch and quite springy . very easy to play. the cue send switch has a playable momentary half to its on action also. the four mix amps will be my clone of the two tube pultec MB1 amp. the whole mixer is totally fat. no flab. tuned for maximum playability and simplicity.
